Cytomorphology of selected subtypes of acute leukemia

Accordin to who classification of tumors of hematopeietic and lymphoid tissues, the major subgroups of acute myeloid leukemia (aml) and related precursor neoplasms are the following: aml with recurrent genetic abnormalities, aml with myelodisplasia, therapy related myeloid neoplams and some other. The aim of the study was to anlayze cytomorphology of slelected aml and mpal subtypes. In the study are inculdes AL patients treated at Zagreb University Hospital center. Bone marrow and peripheral blood of al patients were analyzed after pappenheim and cytochemical staining and classified according FA and WHO classification. Cytological diagnosis of AL subtypes together with multidisciplinary diagnostic approach is essential in initial diagnosis and continuous follw up of patients with AL, especilally for secondary AL and some other subtypes of AL requiring individual therapy aproach.
