The hydrodynamic properties of sodium salts of sulphoethylcellulose in water
1977
Abstract The concentration dependence of the sedimentation and diffusion of the sodium salts of sulphoethyl cellulose (Na-SEC) was investigated using solutions of various ionic strength. It was found that these dependences are mainly affected by ionic charges. These values, when extrapolated to zero concentration, i.e. s 0 and D 0 , were found to be independent of ionic strength; this indicates considerable permeability of the Na-SEC molecules. Comparison of the concentration dependences of s and D found earlier for polyacrylic acid (PAA) showed that the effect of ionization on the consecutive movement of PAA (a flexible chain poly-ion) is of about the same type and magnitude as that for the Na-SEC.
