Microcomputers: Do They Have a Place in Large Engineering Firms?

1982
During the past few years, microcomputers have really begun to take hold in small consulting engineering firms. Less well known is the fact that microcomputers are also beginning to take hold in engineering firms with large central computers. This article tells how one large firm, Ebasco Services, recently bought ten microcomputers. The move takes the load off the large central computer, freeing it for the big jobs. Meanwhile, computing power has been brought closer to the engineer-user, who can now use a locally available microcomputer for his smaller problems. Large firms are just beginning to realize the tremendous potential of microcomputers.
