Architectural flexibility in microprogramming

Several advantages of the architectural flexibility inherent in microprogramming are given as exemplified in the design of a floating point processor for small computers. Principally these include residual programming to provide two and four-way branches in any instruction, multiple destination moves, and context-dependent shifts.
