Learning about teaching through research in practice

1999
This article reports on some action research undertaken by one primary teacher in teaching science as part of an MEd course. The teacher developed an interest in the constructivist approach to teaching science and attempted to adopt this approach in teaching life processes to her Year 6 class. She was able to reflect both on her usual approach to science teaching and on this alternative approach, and in so doing was able to improve her science teaching. By reflecting on their own practice, course participants have come to understand better why they do what they do and are more able to change their approaches for the better when appropriate to do so.
