A sensory feedback system for grasping pressure in a myoelectric hand

1988
A critical aspect of replacing even a small portion of lost hand function is to provide accurate sensory information to the individual with a myoelectric limb. A prototype system was developed to enhance this sensory information transfer by using a technique in which the feedback modality (pressure) was the same as that of the grasping pressure. A pilot study which compared the developed system to an electrocutaneous feedback system as well as to a no-feedback condition (vision only) found that the pressure-pressure concept reduced grasping-pressure replication errors. >
