Simulated Practice Centre Program Evaluation

2008
George Brown College (GBC) completed major renovations of the Simulated Practice Centre (SPC), formerly the Nursing Resource Centre (NRC) at the St. James Campus and purchased new simulation equipment with funds provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. It is paramount that an e ective SPC Program be in place in order to support good learning outcomes for nursing students as well as those in interprofessional and post-licensure programs. Many institutions have little guidance in the process of developing an e ective SPC program and are left to guess through trial and error1. The NRC was previously operated by one full time nursing faculty and three sessional nursing faculties and was utilized mainly by nursing students from the Bachelor of Nursing (BScN) and Practical Nursing (PN) programs from 2004 to 2007. With the previous NRC Program model there were many challenges, such as meeting the educational needs of the student population. Presently, the SPC Program model has changed. There are now two nursing faculties and one technologist supporting the SPC program.
