Effect of Fermented Mushroom Milk on Hyperlipidemia and Hepatic Injury in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic and Zucker Diabetic Fatty Rats

2004
Effects of fermented mushroom milk on hyperlipidemia and hepatic injury in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic and Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats were studied. Serum triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations were significantly higher in STZ-diabetic rats, but not in those given with the fermented mushroom milk. GOT, GPT, ALP, and LDH activities in serum were dramatically higher in STZ-diabetic rats, but these increases decreased when given with the fermented mushroom milk. Cholesterol concentration in ZDF rats was increased by fermented mushroom milk, and triglyceride concentration was not significantly different among ZDF rat groups.
