A process for the production of prepregs of fibers and thermoplastic material

The invention relates to a method for producing prepregs of fibers (2, 16), in particular a fibrous web, scrim, non-woven material or the like, and thermoplastic resin using thermoplastic plastic particles (18). The aim of the invention is the production of prepregs with a uniform, adequate and sufficiently stable for storage, transport and further processing of the prepreg loading of the fibers (2, 16) with thermoplastic resin particles (18). This object is achieved by a method comprising at least the following steps: • preparation of an aqueous dispersion, at least including a colloidally disperse phase particles (17) of a particle size <0.5 microns and a coarsely dispersed phase with thermoplastic plastic particles (18) having a particle size between 1 and 400 microns, • applying the dispersion on the fibers (2, 16) and • stripping excess dispersion and drying the prepreg. During impregnation of the fibers (2, 16) penetrate the particles (17) of the colloidally disperse phase deeply between the fibers (2, 16) and are deposited on the individual fibers (16), wherein the thermoplastic resin particles (18) of the coarsely dispersed phase entrained and after drying by adhesion together with the fibers (2, 16) are held.
