Neutron Radiative Capture and Transmission Measurements of 107Ag and 109Ag

1983
Neutron capture and total cross sections of 107Ag and 109Ag have been measured using the time-of-flight facility at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute electron linear accelerator. Capture measurements were carried out with a 3500 1 large liquid scintillation detector at 52 m flight path and transmission measurements were made with 6Li-glass detectors at 56 m and 190 m flight paths. Resonance energies and neutron widths were determined up to 7 keV both for 107Ag and 109Ag. The s-wave strength functions and average level spacings were found to be S0 = (0.42 ± 0.05) × 10−4 D0 = 22 ± 2 eV for 107Ag and S0 = (0.44 ± 0.05) × 10−4, D0 = 21 ± 2 eV for 109Ag. The average capture cross sections were deduced in the energy range of 3.2 to 700 keV with an estimated accuracy of 4 to 8%. The data to 100 keV were well fitted with the average resonance parameters. Recent evaluated data for 109Ag disagree significantly with our results.
