Effect of the active medium on the creep of the eve sclera

The irreversible stretching (creep) of the eye sclera, which causes a high degree of myopia, was experimentally investigated. In the presence of certain enzymes, both drastic acceleration and considerable deceleration of creep are observed. The creep of different connective tissues, which is caused by static and cyclic mechanical stresses (gravity force, blood pressure, etc.), may reveal itself by many age-related and pathological changes in the human organism. The authors hope that investigations in this field and the discovery of appropriate inhibitors may help to replace surgery (eye, cosmetic, etc.) by preventive therapy.
