Veiled Cell Lymphocyte Interaction

1985
Interactions between veiled cells and lymphocytes have been studied by time-lapse cinematography. For this purpose rabbits were immunized with lOmgs Keyhole Limpet Haemocyanin (KLH) or Human Gamma Globulin (HgG) in Freunds’ complete adjuvant and later boosted by an injection of 20mgs antigen alone. At various times after the second injection, veiled cells were prepared from the afferent lymph and lymphocytes from the peripheral blood (PBL). The veiled cells were pulsed with the appropriate antigen O.4mgs KLH/ml or 1.5mgs HgG/ml for 1/2 hour, washed and added to autologous PBL at a level of 1%. The cells were filmed in an inverted microscope for up to 6 hours after mixing and after a delay of 10–16 hours.
