Fiber optic pulse sensor for noninvasive cardiovascular applications

1990
A dual-channel noninvasive fiber-optic sensor system developed for the simultaneous recording of the carotid and radial artery pulses is presented. These pressure waveforms were recorded in six normal and three hypertensive subjects. The results of a time-domain analysis are in close agreement with those of previous studies and indicate an expected increase in the pulse wave velocity and elasticity of the arteries with hypertension. >
