Measurement approach for custom designed cold plasma generator

Abstract More recently corona discharges have started to be used as cold atmospheric plasma sources for biomedical applications. This is due to the simple way of its generation. Nevertheless, there are still difficulties of gas discharge stabilization. For this reason, determination of corona discharge electrical characteristics is very important. At the same time, it should be remembered that common measurement approaches and tools may not always be used. Particularly the corona discharge generation in small air gaps was crucial in this study, which immediately restricted an application of commercial current and voltage probes. As a result, special method for the voltage measurement across the air gap was proposed. In addition, corona discharge current pulses of nanosecond duration were measured in high resolution. All this made it possible to obtain complete information about the transient discharge current and voltages. Presented methods might be useful for gas discharge investigation of conditions like that discussed in the paper.
