La ubicación del santuario de Melqart en Gadir: aportación de los datos PNOA-LiDAR

2021
Studies on historical (geo) morphology have been essential to identify the ancient landscape of the coast and estuaries of Tartessos. As potential complement, this work aims to incorporate in this background the goals offered by data processing from aerial LiDAR files (LiDAR-PNOA). Data processing generates three-dimensional volumes, Digital Terrain Models (MDT), acquired from unaltered orographic traces. The knowledge of the sea level oscillations in the archaic times allows adjusting the shape and conditions of the first Phoenician settlements. Bathymetric analyses and ancient toponymy have also been considered as determining factors in the argumentation. This work applies this resource, for the first time, to understand the situation and environment of Melqart´s Sanctuary in the general paleotopographic context of Gadeira. The result of the combined documentation here presented is the proposal of another situation for the Melqart sanctuary in Gadir, so called Hercules Gaditanus in its posterity
