When are motility tests indicated for the choice of treatment

1989
The diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux (GER) can be confirmed by a variety of different diagnostic procedures. Though the boundaries between physiologic and pathologic reflux are floating the accuracies of the tests are different. Esophageal radiography, which documents only the consequences of GER and secondary sicknesses, does not allow any essential statements about GER. The diagnosis of reflux esophagitis by X-ray is difficult and only effective at a progressive stage or if there are any comphcations of GER hke ulcer, stenosis or Barrett’s Syndrome.
