Host-inherent variability influences the transcriptional response of Staphylococcus aureus during in vivo infection

Drugs inhibiting virulence factors of bacterial pathogens are under development. Here, Thanert et al. analyse the transcriptomes of host and pathogen during Staphylococcus aureus infection of two mouse strains, and show that virulence determinants are differentially expressed in different mouse strains.
