Two Dimensional Soil Model for Land Surface Processes

In this study we investigate a performance of three layer soil model which is used in SiB model through comparison with the precise vertical resolution soil model. The governing equations of precise model are based on Richards' equation. and modified Picard iteration scheme is used in the numerical calculation.Assuming the vertical profile of soil moist ure within soil layer and adding the ground water level in prognostic variables, we propose a two dimensional soil model for use in the land surface process models which can treat the effect of topography on soil moisture field and resultant latent heat flux.
