Scintillation properties of Eu2+-activated CsCaCl3−xBrx (x=1, 1.5, 2)

2017
Abstract Crystals of CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 Cl 3−x Br x compositions (namely, CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 ClBr 2 , CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 Cl 1.5 Br 1.5 and CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 Cl 2 Br) were grown by the vertical Bridgman–Stockbarger method. Their radioluminescence spectra contain a narrow band, which can be attributed to the 5d-4f transition in Eu 2+ . The decay times are 1.49 μs for CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 ClBr 2 , 4.79 μs for CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 Cl 1.5 Br 1.5 and 4.1 μs for CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 Cl 2 Br. The highest light yield is 37,000 ph/MeV in CsCa 0.95 Eu 0.05 ClBr 2 with an energy resolution of 14.1% at 662 keV. The photoluminescence emission and excitation spectra of the obtained materials were recorded. The moisture sensitivity of the new scintillation materials has been estimated.
