Thispaperdescribes a vehicle-borne mappingsystem whichcombines laser scanners, camerasandnavigation unit forurbanspatial object extraction especially thetraffic signs/signals. Considering the highcostof searching candidates ofurbanspatial objects inimages, candidates are searched inlaser points. Aslaser scanners andcamerasare calibrated into acommonreference frame, laser points canbe projected ontoimages toperform candidate verification. The combination oflaser scanners andcamerascanreducethe search spaceinimages. Moreover laser points provide precise 3dposition forthecandidate.
