Introduction: Ganglioneuromas are neuroblastic tumors derived from the neural crest. They are rare, affecting children and young adults with a predilection for females, mostly benign and showing asymptomatic behavior. They originate in any part of the paravertebral sympathetic system, having the thoracic cavity and retroperitoneal as main sites with rare simultaneous impairment. Objective: To elucidate the complexity of the approach of tumor lesions that exceeds different anatomical planes by proposing an innovative surgical strategy. Methods: This case report was based on records of the data collection of a patient followed in neurosurgery clinic at the Hospital Escola Alvaro Alvim. Results: We obtained through a minimally invasive technique, the excision of the tumor block with safety margins, abdominal component, and partial resection of the portion of the lumbar nerve roots. Conclusion: Tumors of the lumbar roots with progression into the abdominal cavity require multidisciplinary approach due to the need of disjunction of segments of lesion stages. It is believed that, with this surgical technique, benign tumors must imperatively be removed by laparoscopy, due to the advantages in relation to morbidity and postoperative recovery compared to laparotomy.
