Controller Interface Between Power Supply Used for Welding Operations and a Robotic Arm Implementing a DeviceNet Protocol

DeviceNet is an object oriented application networking solution for automation. It’s most important advantage is reduction of hardwiring and the corresponding high cost required for the industrial devices. The protocol is used to form a closed, controlled and a networked system. The hardwired circuit uses a number of relays that needs to be monitored continuously at the time of welding. The CAN protocol used for communication acts as a base for DeviceNet. The parameters like temperature, voltage and current are controlled using the communication. This eliminates human interference and ultimately improves efficiency of the welding job to be done. An integrated approach to automate the time consuming process is described in this paper.
