The effects of body weight and temperature on the metabolic rate of Hydropsyche venularis banks (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae)

1982
Abstract 1. 1. The metabolic rate of Hydropsyche venularis was determined in relation to body weight and temperature. 2. 2. H. venularis appears to be adapted to 10–15°C and 20–25°C with Q 10 values of 1.23 and 1.65, respectively. 3. 3. Temperature has a smaller but more consistent effect on metabolic rate than body weight. 4. 4. We hypothesize that differences in metabolic rate between smaller and larger larvae may allow temporal separation of these groups.
