Strain fields within contracting skeletal muscle

Introduction Local loads within muscle tissue are believed to initiate local muscle damage and adaptation. To improve the understanding of the mechanism of local damage and adaptation knowledge is required on how external loads are transferred to local loads within the tissue. A 3D continuum model of the rat TA muscle (figure 1) was developed to investigate this transfer of loads during muscle contraction.
