LIFE EXPERIENCE WITH AGING OF ORGANIC ELECTRICAL INSULATING HATERIALS IN MXLEAR RADIATION EHVIRONHEHTS

1986
Experience is reported with the aqinq of electrical insulating aaterials in the nuclear radiation environ.ent of the CERN high-enerqy particle accelerators. This includes conven tional cable-insulating aaterials, such as polyethylene, ethylene propylene rubber, poly urethane rubber and polyvinylchloride, as well as various types of epoxy resins used for insulation of electrotechnical equipaent. The degree of the observed radiation daaage de pends on the aaterial type, the dose ratr, and thf total dose, which varied between 10 .and 10 Cy. The results obtained allow predictions to be aade of long-tera aging effects of these types of aaterial with aore confidence.
