Epicanthus correction by modified transverse incision epicanthoplasty

2012
Objective To explore a better way to adequately enlarge the inner canthus with inconspicuous scar based on the operation method of transverse incision for correcting the redundant skin in the inner canthus. Methods Designing transverse incision along the new inner canthal point and lower palpebral margin, separating the skin below incision, dissociation or cutting off part of displaced orbicularis, and suturing the original inner canthal point and new inner canthal point, without removing skin, only subcutaneous separation. Results 83 of 85 cases was satisfied with postoperative shape. The correction was sufficient with inconspicuous scar and 1ess recrudescence by the new method.3 cases had evident incision scars when postoperative one month, three months later scars became inconspicuous, only 2 cases were unsatisfactorv for the skin fold. Conclusion This method has the advantages of sufficient enlarged inner canthus.Without removing skin, inconspicuous scar and 1ess recrudescence. It is a simple and effective method for correcting the redundant skin of the inner canthus.
