Analysis on tendency of weight gain in the neonatal period

2008
Objective:To explore the tendency and impact factors of weight gain among neonates.Methods:1 023 cases from the neonates' interview data through cluster sampling were investigated. The fetal age, birth weight and weight in every stage of the neonatal period and breast feeding information were recorded. Results:The average weight gain was(1 091.6±329.8) g through the whole neonatal period. The weight of the male was significantly higher than that of the female in all every stage except in the first week. The weight gain of the pure breast feeding group was significantly lower than that of the un-pure breast feeding group in the first week, while no significant difference was found in the next week.Generalized linear model analyses indicated that the weight gained in every stage of the neonates, and there was statistical significance in birth weight and fetal age as concomitant variable. Conclusion:There is some regularity of weight gain in the neonatal period.Weight gain among the neonates is effected by birth weight, fetal age and feeding methods.
