Event-Driven Model for High Speed End-to-End Simulations of Transmission System with Non-Linear Optical Elements and Cascaded Clock-and-Data Recovery Circuits

2019
We describe a new end-to-end model for simulating high-speed transmission systems with electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical converters and the accompanying clock-and-data recovery (CDR) circuits. This developed model properly handles multiple CDR circuits cascaded in the system, is implemented in Simulink, and runs in an event-driven mode to reduce the simulation time. In this model, an optical signal is generated by solving the rate equation to represent the non-linear characteristics of the signal. The calculation speed is 10 times higher than that of the IBIS-AMI model. Our model allows us to simulate an end-to-end jitter analysis for signal transmission systems.
