Energy transfer investigations through satellite structure in Nd doped yttrium aluminium perovskite

1994
Abstract Highly resolved laser selective excitation and optical absorption spectra, and decay measurements are used to investigate energy transfer in YAlO 3 . The study was made on the Nd satellite structure around the 4 I 9 2 (1)→ 4 G 5 2 (1) and t 4 I 9 2 (1)→ 4 F 3 2 (1) transitions. The satellite distribution does not change with concentration but is different according to the transition, and no connection is observed between spectral shifts and lifetimes. Three classes of Nd ions are distinguished, isolated, perturbed and coupled ions. While energy migration is not important, a specific energy transfer between two particular pairs of satellites is found. This transfer is fast, temperature-dependent, and concentration-independent.
