A wide range of applications and innovations from Ecological and Environmental research

Research in Ecology and environmental sciences is rapidly becoming a source of applications and innovations, with increasing diversity. These innovations concern a large range of fields, from blue biotechnology to socioecosystem management. The aim of the present review is to explore this diversity by describing some of the most recent studies in Ecology and environmental science that have led to environmental, societal, and industrial applications. Past and present research in Ecology and environmental science proves to be an essential means for creating awareness about global threats (e.g. climate change) and for guiding national and local authorities (e.g. ecosystem management). Future research is likely to be even more proactive toward societal and environmental challenges, by providing technological innovations and concrete solutions to ensure both nature conservation and its exploitation.
