Comparison of applying effect between peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) and subclavian vein inserted catheter in old patients with tumor

2007
Objective: To compare the effect of applying between peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) and subclavian vein inserted catheter in old patients with tumor. Methods:By random sampling,286 old patients with tumor were enrolled in this study. They were divided into two groups: 136 patients for group A which were applied to PICC,and 150 patients for group B which were applied to subclavian vein inserted catheter. The rate of the first success of inserting catheter and the complications were observed in two groups respectively. Results:There were significant difference in the rate of the first success compared group A with group B(P0.001).The incidence rate of missing puncture of arterial, cutaneous emphysema and phlebitis were also significant difference among the complications(P= 0.010,0.024,0.000 respectively),so was the rate of abandoning catheter caused by complications(P= 0.047).Conclusion:This study suggests that PICC could be applied to old patients with tumor extensively.
