Exploiting High Performance Computing to Reduce the T&E LifeCycle

2010
Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) has been a pioneer in the development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM) methods to complement and/or enhance the aerospace ground testing capabilities residing at the center. A parallel commitment to maintain large scale computer systems to address the requirements of these applications has persisted for several decades. The paper will provide background on the current state of AEDC’s modeling and simulation capabilities. In addition, a discussion of commercially available modeling and simulation software and its increasing adoption will be covered. Current and future software development will be discussed as well as estimates on the demands these emerging applications will place on HPC.
