The invention discloses a preparation method of gold nano-particle/ carbon nano tube composite material and application thereof. The preparation method of the gold nano-particle/carbon nano tube composite material comprises the steps of: (1) mixing a carbon nano tube with a HAuC14 solution to obtain a hot solution 1 after microwave heating for 1-3 minutes; (2) mixing the hot solution 1 with a sodium citrate solution to obtain a hot solution 2 after microwave radiation for 4-6 minutes; (3) cooling the hot solution 2 to a room temperature to obtain a suspension, and centrifugating and filtering the suspension to gain the gold nano-particle/carbon nano tube composite material. The gold nano-particle/carbon nano tube composite material provided by the invention can be used for detecting content of heavy metal Hg in a sample to be detected.
