Impact on the power and performance of an internal combustion engine using hydrogen

2021
Abstract The characteristics of the entire operation of an Otto cycle internal combustion engine that uses hydrogen gasoline as fuel were studied in the present report. A single-cylinder engine fueled by hydrogen plus gasoline was used, and the air-gasoline and hydrogen-gasoline mixtures were used to obtain actual engine power data. The theoretical power without H2 was 4.5 HP and with H2 6.3 HP, with an increase of 28.3%; the actual power without H2 is 4.6 HP and with H2 5.8 HP, which increased by 17.9%. The theoretical fuel consumption is 410.42 g / kWh and less than 475.61 g / kWh with the addition of H2.
