Survey of mortality rates and consent practices for orthognathic surgery in UK OMFS units

involved our endocrine colleagues in the assessment of these patients, who carried out further investigations but were unable to reach a diagnostic conclusion. Having failed to elicit a diagnosis we hypothesise that the underlying cause is related to their pregnancies. To this end we discuss the physiological acromegalic state of pregnancy and the hormonal influences that could account for the changes seen. In particular we discuss the way in which Growth Hormone regulation alters during pregnancy.
