Cement treated pavement rehabilitation using geotextiles

1991
A considerable problem exists in Queensland with prematurely distressed cement treated base pavements. This paper gives a detailed overview of the management (or problem solving) process followed by the Department of Transport, Queensland when confronted with this technical problem of how to effectively rehabilitate these pavements. Of the alternatives considered, bitumen impregnated geotextile treatments have been found to provide appropriate and effective solutions and their use is now widespread throughout Queensland. The bitumen impregnated geotextile delays and/or inhibits the occurrence and propagation of cracking and provides a continuous membrane to prevent moisture ingress and the pumping of fines from the pavement structure, thereby minimising further deterioration.
