Luminescence of cathodochromic sodalite

1976
A bright green luminescence at 5250 A is reported for cathodochromic sodalite powders under ultraviolet excitation. This emission is observed in germanium-doped sodalite samples in which the halogen ion is either Cl, Br, or I and under certain conditions in germanium-free bromine sodalite. These powders constitute a new class of materials which allow the construction of cathodochromic CRT's whose images can be viewed in either high or low ambient light.
