Genetic and Epidemiologic Studies of Oral Characteristics in Hawaii's Schoolchildren: Dietary Patterns and Caries Prevalence

1973
The relationship between the frequency of eating various foods and caries was studied in 910 eighth grade students of different races in Hawaii. There was a significant positive association between the frequency of candy and gum intake and DMF teeth. Racial differences still persisted after accounting for the dietary variation.
