Improved Fault Ride-Through Strategy for DWIG in Wind Power Systems

2018
This paper proposes a complementary system for Dual Stator Winding Induction Generator (DWIG) in Wind Power Applications. This additional system improves the Low- Voltage Ride-Through capability of this kind of generator. This paper introduces a technique to avoid the overrating current, assuring the protection of the Control-Winding Side Converter, by means of adding a dynamic crowbar to the wind power system. In addition, the solution presented here can be used also to regulate the power in a hybrid micro-grid, with both DC, and AC distribution, increasing also its ride-through capability. Therefore, the proposed strategy helps to integrate the microgrid components, sources and loads, in the electrical grid.
