A descriptive community health study at Kampung Sungai Chenaam, Mukim 10, Nibong Tebal, Seberang Perai Selatan / Fatin Syafiqah Mohd Yusof

A study aimed to assess the health status of population and the factors that cause health risks to villagers was conducted in Kampung Sungai Chenaam. The descriptive community health study area is located in Nibong Tebal, Seberang Perai Selatan. The distance between studied area and Seberang Perai Selatan District Health Office was 15 km. This survey was conducted by 4 students from Faculty Health Science, Diploma in Environmental Health, UiTM who are undergoing practical training at the Seberang Perai Selatan District Health Office. Study period was on going from 1st December 2015 until 18th January 2016. About 68 houses in Kampung Sungai Chenaam were selected randomly during the survey and all of them are Malay. The study is conducted by the guides of standardized questionnaires form provided by faculty. The questionnaires consists six parts which is Respondents’ Information, Housing Characteristic, Domestic Water Supply, Domestic Sewage and Drainage System, Domestic Refuse Disposal and Vector & Pest Management, and Safety and Health Promotion. Based on the community surveys carried out, there are some significant problems that have been identified. The problem at study area is improper solid waste management problem. The problem is arising due to lack of awareness by the community on proper management of solid waste around their house. 61.8% of respondents do not separate their waste and 30.9% flies are most attracting to waste. For this problem, health awareness campaign should be done on the refuse disposal system to community in Kampung Sungai Chenaam.
