Chapter 45 – Hybrid Polybenzoxazine Nanocomposites for Low-k Dielectrics

2017
This chapter discusses the low-k dielectric materials based on polybenzoxazine nanocomposites for electronic packaging and aerospace applications. Polybenzoxazine and its nanocomposites possess many intriguing characteristics such as flame retardant behaviors, hydrophobicity, self-polymerizability upon heating without releasing any byproduct, near-zero volumetric shrinkage, as well as their outstanding dielectric, thermal, and mechanical properties. The present study provides the dielectric and thermal behaviors of the polymer matrix by the introduction of less polar functional groups, porous structured nanomaterials, and the formation of a lamellar structured polymer matrix, which offers significant information for the reduction of the dielectric constant of the polymer materials.
