The Role of Liposuction in Abdominoplasty

2011
The development of liposuction or lipoaspiration has made significant improvement in classical concept of abdominoplasty especially in the management of various abdominal esthetic deformities. Traditional abdominoplasty procedure often caused unsatisfying result for example fat deposition on upper abdomen. On the other hand liposuction procedure alone also gave limitation such as inability to correct the weakness of musculoaponeurosis. The combination of these two procedures aimed as an effort to simplify the technique and also to achieve maximum esthetic result. There are 3 basic rules of lipoaspiration which are, conservative resection, leaving at least 1 cm superficial fat, and regularity. The advantages of lipoaspiration are the ability to preserve vessels and nerves in abdominal flap superior to umbilicus and reduction in the length of incision and amount of skin resection.
