Advances on Syndromic Management of Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Research data showed that syndromic approachcould successfully manage gonococcal and chlamydialinfections in males and syphilis and chancroid in males andfemales. However low sensitivity, specificity and positivepredictive value were found in the syndromic management ofvaginal discharge. It is recommended that the syndromicalgorithm for management of vaginal discharge used whenserving high-risk and symptomatic women.
