Re-Expansion Pulmonary Edema

A 35 year old male was admitted to the deparlment of medicine, with history of pleuritic type of]Jain on left side ofchest and breathlessness ofone day duration. He had clinical and radiological evidence ofpneumothorax on left side (figure I). He was managed with intercostal tube drainage inunediately after diagnosis was made. The chest radiograph after placement oflhe tube revealed lung expansion with fluffy infiltrates on the left side (figure 2). The radiograph was repeated after six hours, it showed partial clearance oflhi infiltrates (figurc 3), where as twelve hours later the infiltrates showed complete clear~nce (figure 4) and afterwards chest tube was removed after full expansion and observation for next two days.
