The invention relates to a large generator set safety monitoring wireless sensor network system and a method thereof. The system is provided with a local monitoring center, a remote monitoring center and a power plant monitoring micronet comprising multiple sensor nodes arranged on a device and a base station node, wherein the sensor nodes and the base station node communicate with each other by wireless mesh network protocol, and the communication between the base station node and the local monitoring center is in the combined mode of a fieldbus and an Ethernet interface; the sensor nodes use a radio-frequency transceiver module to receive the control commands sent by the local monitoring center or the remote monitoring center through the base station node and use a sensor module to acquire data, and the acquired data is packed and is then transmitted to the base station node; and the data obtained by the monitoring micronet is transmitted to the local monitoring center through the base station node or is transmitted to the remote monitoring center through the fieldbus, and working personnel of the local monitoring center or the remote monitoring center can monitor all the parameters and history data of the on-site generator set by sending short messages or logging on the WWW browser.
