Fluids, Fitness, and Fatness

2017
Abstract Guidelines for fluid intake are controversial and largely nonevidence based. High energy fluids (including fruit juices, energy and “power” drinks, and sugar-sweetened soft drinks, largely from processed sources), can contribute up to ∼20% of total energy intake, particularly in children, thus significantly contributing to obesity. Recommendations for fluid intake are considered here in light of this knowledge.
