Little Arkansas River Watershed Restoration

2008
Wichita, Kansas is using the surface water from the Little Arkansas River to recharge the Equus Beds Aquifer. The water from this aquifer is currently being used to improve the quality of the Wichita’s other surface supplies and will be used in the future as a primary water supply for the city. The water quality requirements for this recharge water are more stringent than typical surface water supplies. Impairments include sediments, nutrients, and pesticides. A paired watershed study will be described that addresses possible restoration processes to reduce these non-point pollution sources.
