Models Of Gaze Control In Man

1990
The control of gaze (absolute position of the eyes in space) is achieved through an appropriate combination of eye and head movements. The aim of this paper is to describe two strategies of gaze control observed in man. They make use of the saccadic mechanism, the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and the head motor plant which are coordinated in a different way depending on the presence of a position reference signal. The experimental results are discussed in terms of models of the gaze control system.
