Phase relationships and thermodynamic parameters in the BaO-CeO system for 0-50 mol. % BaO

The authors use x-ray phase analysis and EMF methods to show that there is a narrow region of cubic solid solutions based on CeO/sub 2/ with the fluorite structure in the BaO-CeO/sub 2/ system, and the bounds to this region are established at 1270-1770 degrees K. EMF measurements have been used with the cell containing a solid fluorideionic electrolyte to determine the thermodynamic parameters of BaCeO/sub 3/ and of the solid solutions of BaO in CeO/sub 2/ over the range 11501400 degrees K.
