Changes in the activity of submitochondrial protein synthesis in the liver of bullfrog tadpole, Rana catesbeiana, during metamorphosis

1984
Abstract 1. 1. Synthesis of mitochondrial protein by a system consisting of pH 5 and polysomal fractions from the liver mitochondria of tadpole, Rana catesbeiana , was studied. 2. 2. The activity of the system was most active at pH 7.1 and 27°C. 3. 3. Antibiotics, such as chloramphenicol, erythromycin and puromycin were shown to be inhibitory. 4. 4. The products were analysed by SDS gel electrophoresis. 5. 5. The system consisting of pH 5 and polysomal fractions from the liver mitochondria of tadpole at metamorphic climax was more active than that from the tadpole at premetamorphosis.
